BEACH BOY The idea behind "Beaches"
(Abrams) came to Gray Malin in 2011 during a
weekend getaway with friends. "Our hotel room
happened to be 20 stories above a giant
swimming pool," he writes in the book. "As I looked
directly down on the crowded scene of sunbathers
below, my head began to spin as I observed the
bright colors, repetitive shapes and playful
elements of this inviting perspective."
